Breastfeeding: When and How to Wean

AAP Logo
Generally, we try to not offer a bottle to babies until about a month so they get used to and prefer their mom's breast. At a month, baby's preferences are usually set so it is good to introduce a bottle. Keep up with this regularly, perhaps once a day to keep your baby used to eating from a bottle.  This will give you some flexity in feeding your baby.

What do you do for babies who refuse a bottle? Here is a handout from  IABLE (Institute for Breastfeeding & Lactation Education)  for when babies refuse a bottle.
